What if? This is the question that we as Americans find ourselves asking more and more. What if my home catches fire? What if I crash my car? What if I am caught in a community emergency like a terrorist attack? Here at PVFD we ask the same questions, and we spend a great deal of time preparing for the thousands of "what if" situations that we might encounter. We are equipped and trained to help you in a pinch, but there is a lot that you can do beforehand to assure the safety of your family, neighbors, and customers. We like to operate under the old principal "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." On this page you will find resources that you can use to get ahead of the game.

Business Fire Safety

The Fire Prevention Bureau conducts life safety evaluations of businesses in the district once per year. The inspectors look for violations of the adopted fire code (International Fire Code-2006 edition). This code is adopted to regulate and enhance fire safety features of local businesses. For information on how to improve the safety of your business click on the link below.

NOTE: Some fees and fines apply to business evaluations. Please see the chart below for more information.

Permits

The adopted fire code (International Fire Code-2006 edition) requires permits to be issued for certain activities conducted in the district. To obtain an application for permit, please visit our office.

The only open burning permitted in the district is recreational fires. Simply put, these are camp fires. They can be no larger than 3ft wide by 3ft high. These fires still must comply with the fire code. The following requirements apply:

  • Must be in a pit below grade

  • Must be AT LEAST 25ft from any structure or combustible material

  • Must be attended at all times

If we receive complaints about your fire or it's smoke, we will extinguish it.

Failure to comply with these requirements could result in a fine, ticket, or both.

Plan Submittal Requirements

If you are planning on building in Pleasant View there are a few things you should know about the process.

In addition to the plans you submit to Jefferson County, you must submit two sets of plans to us as well. The plans will be reviewed for compliance with the current International Fire Code as well as local ordinance. One set of plans will be retained by the department and the second will be returned to you with our stamp of approval (if applicable).

A fee of $75.00 per hour will be assessed for all types of plan review. There is a one hour minimum. In the event that technical assistance is required by the Fire Marshal, the applicable fee will be assessed as indicated in the Schedule of Fees and Fines.

Disaster Preparedness

In the event that a large scale emergency occurs in the area, there is a possibility that we may not be able to reach you in a timely manner due to the number of affected people. That being said, it is important that you take measures to assure that your family has what it needs to survive. Please use the resources below to take action!
